Event: Night Noodle Markets
Location: Hyde Park, Elizabeth Street, Sydney
Available: 10th Oct - 26th Oct 2014
If you all had not noticed from all my
previous posts on my GFM, well, namely Let’s Do Dessert you must all think I
love it a lot. And you’re not entirely wrong there. Why do I say that? Because
Night Noodle Markets is probably one of the events held throughout this month
that I dislike and avoid. Oh no, I did not just say that!?
I don’t know why, it just never really
appealed to me all that much.
So, why do I find myself here blogging
about it, which clearly, I had gone and indulged on something. Psh, hypocrite.
Get there at 5.30pm and you are still able
to buy food without a queue! Get there any later than 6pm and you’ll be at
least 20 deep, for the popular stands for sure.
2 skewers $10 with rice +$3 |
So, what made me stand in Hyde Park on a
Wednesday night? HOY PINOY of course! These skewers would not go amiss with the
smoke coming out of their stand. Skewers lined up on the grills, and I wanted
to snap the array of skewers but were only met with a grey image. Ordering the
pork belly, the meat basically tries
to melt in your mouth (because we all know they cannot melt). It takes
self-control not to go back and buy more.
Gua baos $7 each | $20 for 3 |
There was also no way I was walking away
without trying wonderbao, I mean I was there anyway right? I tried the twice
cooked belly, the bun soft, the pork tender and the cucumber and pickled vegies
refreshing to counter balance the sweet hoisin sauce. Was that heaven I saw momentarily?
Miss CC also had the tofu and it looked like an agedashi tofu sitting in the
sweet, soft bun. She loved the silky bean curd.
“With these gua baos, who would buy
traditional ones?!”
“Oh wait, I think someone just did …”
That, was awkward – we just hope no one
heard us …
So, do you guys prefer traditional baos or
gua baos? And do you enjoy the night
noodle markets?
I feel the same way about the night noodle markets. We had a terrible experience a few years ago and haven't been back! The food was awful and the queues were insane. I guess you just have to get there really early like you did! :D
ReplyDeleteyeah, i just don't think it is worth the wait for something that I need to stand and "enjoy" beating the rush is probably really the way to go! Shame on your horrible experience though :(
DeleteI'm a fan of markets and happy to go whenever I see one. Hoy Pinoy barbecue looks great. I'm now having a liking for Filipino food, too :)
ReplyDeleteGourmet Getaways
aww that's great! you must love the atmosphere, which I wish I did too :(
Deletemmm~ hoy pinoy was delicious... totally craving their pork skewers again, sort of wanted to try their chicken too :)
Seems so delicious, I absolutely love your photos! I just totally wish I had gotten to go and try Wonderbao! :D
ReplyDeleteCheers
Choc Chip Uru
aww thanks girly!! :)
DeleteIt's ok, better excuse to try - "i need to go melbourne!"
I had the pork skewers today and they were AMAZING!
ReplyDeleteThey are right!! :D mmm~ i want them now!
Deletecan't wait for it to come to Melbounre
ReplyDeleteand please, when it does - indulge away! :D
DeleteAgreed. The only way to do the Noodle Markets is get there super early! So great to see some Melb joints pop up too.
ReplyDeleteYeah, the only way to enjoy as well .. XD I am not a fan of crowds, at all.
DeleteBut yes, guess I really needed to pop over and try these Melb joints XD
Dear Cassie,
ReplyDeleteThough I understand the spirit of promo for the NNM, I think the food is overrated and expensive when it's without the service of a proper restaurant, let alone queues. We had free food vouchers to the Citi VIP area this year and even then, it was chockers. I'm not a fan of eating my noodles off a paper box while standing up either.
oh i hear you there !
DeleteBut I do think they stepped up their game this year and have offered much more seats and nice ones too. But not enough to lure me in when I mean, we can just pop into the restaurant and eat them freshly cooked right? ;)
the night markets get get pretty expensive, my night out ended up costing me around $80. My favourite was definitely wonderbao!
ReplyDeleteIt totally adds up, wow $80!! I hope belly was happy and satisfied too though!
Deletemm ~ yes, hard call ... even though i only have 2 to chose from!
