Gelato Messina Dessert Bar, Darlinghurst

Messina Dessert Bar,
I have admired from afar,
Could it be a new star,
Or has it left a minor scar?

Following our lovely brunch at Pinbone, Miss CC and I decided to pop into the messina gelato dessert bar. I have been longing to go for a while now, and what better day than a nice warm day… or so we thought?

I love the novelty of the shop design, and I am eager to try a few on their menu, but we had to be a little more realistic.

Pavlova kone $9.90

Miss CC went with the pavlova cone, it’s cute, topping off with raspberry meringues and a red cone which was also raspberry flavoured. However, as Miss CC ate, she failed to find any links to it tasting like a pavlova. Despite her love for their special pavlova flavour, this perhaps did not live up to that or her expectations. How unfortunate as it looked simply amazing!

Carni candy $9.90

I went for the carni candy, because fairy floss – why not! This totally reminds me of Mr whippy’s chocolate-coated soft serve cones! But it’s far from it, I totally love how refreshing the Fanta sorbet is, but I also failed to find the redskin… until of course I get to the bottom and childhood comes back to me. That sweet raspberry mixed with the orange sorbet was interestingly good.

But a pre-warning with summer ahead of us and those massively hot days, I would totally recommend going for a cup option if you head to the dessert bar, as this melts much faster than you can eat. Both Miss CC and my hands were sticky, it got to the point where we both did not and could not finish our cones.

BUT in saying that, if you ever want to be reminded of how it felt like being a child eating an ice cream cone dripping down your hands, this may just be for you.

So, have you ever had anything recently that brought back childhood memories?

  2. Hehe that is a good tip about getting it in a cup because it is so hot that it would definitely melt before you finished it. We thought that the idea was fun but wasn't quite as tasty as just getting the gelato!

I do too, but the flavours on offer that I wanted more were all in cones (namely fairy floss)
