What the Fudge, Cabramatta

Continuing our Cabramatta eats at Pho Tau Bay, we headed over the What the Fudge for sweets. This was because I needed to also pop in for a uni assignment, killing two birds with one stone.

Gaytime frappe $6

First to arrive was the gaytime frappe, cousin P and I were excited for this, but knowing how freak shakes are we agreed to share this one. While it was a great frappe, with balanced flavours of chocolate, I did fail to find some gaytime resemblance.

Waffles $14.50

Waffles! Crunchy on the outside yet fluffy inside, and there is a generous amount of chocolate sauce, because one can never have enough. Fresh strawberries and slices of banana helped counterbalance this to becoming a healthier dessert.

Deep fried gaytime $13.50

In order to lure my aunts in with us, I had a conversation with aunty 7 prior. Knowing her weakness for all things crunchy, and her all time favourite gaytime…

“They have a deep fried gaytime!”
Her eyes does not disappoint as they widen with excitement, “Then it must be very crunchy!”

I’m glad it did not disappoint her in anyway. For the crumble around the gaytime had not lost any crunch in the process while being deep-fried. The pastry thin, yet crisp. The bits of chocolate balls and crumble sprinkled throughout the dessert gave a bonus added bite to the entire dessert. Definitely the winner dish at What the Fudge. I am anticipating to go back for the deep-fried gaytime freak shake.

We know the aunts enjoyed this meal, as before and during they kept reminding us how full they were, but they also kept spooning for more. They helped demolish everything, plates left sparkling clean.

Pho Tau Bay, Cabramatta

I’m a winter kind of girl, because the heat and I just don’t get along very well. And today’s post may not be one for the warmer hotter days but who knows, some still like to take that challenge and attack a good bowl of pho in 30 degrees heat.

Cousin PC’s boy, Mr JJ is a born Cabramatta boy so the aunts and myself put the trust of our bellies in his hands one Saturday afternoon, we found ourselves sitting inside Pho Tau Bay.

Fried bread stick $1.30 each

Weird combination with pho, but we ordered the yau tiao anyways as when deep fried right the family likes to eat it alone. We can pass on the congee. The exterior holds that slight crisp and the inside slightly soft and doughy, as it should be. Elements of a fresh yau tiao.

We also wanted to order the sesame bun, but unfortunately they had sold out that day….

Beef combination $11

I went with the regular special beef noodle soup, the soup base was delicious,  with a strong beef soup base. I’m not sure about you all, but I have found that most of the raw beef slices now at pho joints are just a bunch of minced beef. Rarely would you see the thinly sliced beef pieces sitting on top of your noodles, here at pho tau bay, they serve my beef slices, beef meatballs, tendons and tripe.

I am told by local Mr JJ that they hand make their own beef balls, and this is definitely evident with the nice firm bite into the beef ball.

Believe me, if I am ever in Cabramatta again, Pho Tau Bay will be visited again. However, I do also need to take into account that there are plenty of other eateries around that I should consider…
