There are days where I sit and ponder, just about life. The thoughts of what we have been given, what we give and what we take for granted.
Just the other night, my skin was in pain
from my scratching and it was sore. My mother in hopes for me to have a night’s
rest was trying to calm the itch and pain with an ice pack and without a
thought I stated, “Life is unfair.” But as soon as it slipped out, I wanted to
take it back, and I tried to – only to be consoled by the ever so understanding
mother that it is, and it is ok for me to claim it is.
But is it? I feel like I don’t have the
right to. I know, it is bad, uncomfortable and bothersome. But there are others
out there that are experiencing things far worse than me. Things that
may not even offer them better days.
At least I know, one day, I can probably feel better again.
I have also questioned, “What is the
meaning of life? Why are we placed on Earth? How does one try to make a
difference?” And my wise mother had answered me with, volunteer work.
Miss CC has known I have been looking for
some volunteer work and was very excited to share the Ride to Conquer Cancer
(RTCC) event that is happening on 10th-12th October 2014.
So, without a second thought, the two of us found ourselves already signed up.
What is RTCC?
It’s an event where you ride 200km
over the course of two days, helping via forms of fundraising. All that is raised goes to the Chris O’Brien Lifehouse helping them with
research and facilities to help cure cancer.
If you want to take part in helping, and
don’t want to ride, you can always sign up for volunteer work as a crewmember.
And it’s not too late to do it now either! They are always in need for more
help, and no one will ever say no to help, right?
We attended a talk a couple of weeks back,
and I am super excited for the fun that is expected. I mean there will be some
pretty emotional rides along the way, interacting with people that will have
some very inspiring stories to share. But this is what makes me get brought
back to reality that there is more to life than all those materialistic things
we get shoved in our faces. Just the reality of being able to remind myself
that it’s the little things that counts. The things that money cannot buy, are
the things that I should hold most dear to me.
So, is life really unfair, or do we tell
ourselves that so we have an excuse to feel sorry for ourselves?
Sure, you can feel sorry for
yourself - I have been there and done that. But why be negative about it, it’s not going to change anything. What
helps make the change is the attitude you take on. I'll leave you with a quote that I like to try and stand by.
“If you change the way you look at things,
the things you look at change.” - Wayne Dyer
