Hawker Malaysian Street Food, Sydney

Watching a movie, you always want to have something quick and easy as you are always in need of being time conscious. This is why Miss CC and I made our visit to Hawker Malaysian Street Food before our movie. Seize any opportunity when possible.

It’s unfortunate that with time, because as time conscious we are – we do tend to forget time as well. We ran out of time to try the infamous apam balik, so until next time …

Left: Cham ping $4
Right: Milo ping $4
Miss CC got half tea, half coffee and that was so refreshing with the Sydney heat, the mix of sweet tea with bitter coffee was rather distinctive. I chose the milo, and it was just a nice chilled glass of milo.

Ikan bakar $16

We were told there was a 20 minute wait for the stingray, however it was the first to arrive at the table. Though, even if there is a 20 minute wait, I would totally still order this. I love the fried skin and the soft tender insides, along with the dipping sauce on the side creating a spicy and tangy touch to the fish.

Popiah $8

The popiah was filled with yambean, shredded omlette, minced tofu, cucumber and crispy shallots. The soft spring roll reminded me of the hoisin sauce in a peking duck, perhaps just a vegetarian version of a peking duck and already wrapped into a spring roll.

KL Hokkien Mee $14

Everyone orders the Char Koay Teow, and I know people would wonder why we would not. However, we both did not feel like it and wanted to try something new, so we opted for the KL hokkien mee, it is stir fried in a black sauce with prawns, pork slices, cabbage and crispy pork fat. With a touch of chilli sauce, and I am addicted.

It was a shame that we missed out on the sweets section, but there we will definitely be back to try it. Oh! And if you’re not a fan of durian, you have been warned that there are deep fried durian and that smell once a spoon slides through is completely… deadly. Obviously I am not #teamdurian

Hit: Stingray
Miss: Popiah
