Burger Shack, Coogee Beach

Love shack, baby, love shack

The song replayed in my mind when I heard Burger Shack, located in the Coogee Bay Hotel’s beer garden, Miss CC and I enjoyed the weekend sun sipping on ciders while munching on burgers. With the sudden burger craze happening over Sydney, especially in the CBD as of late with Neil Perry’s Burger Project and Mary’s CBD Burger shop – I decided to jump on the bandwagon, well, sort of …

Burger Shack is a summer pop up, spending their weekends grilling burgers for all to enjoy! You can bask in the summer days and nights in the beer garden or order a take away and enjoy on the beach.

Prawno $10

It’s a Saturday afternoon, and the beer garden is packed. However, Miss CC and I manage to find a seat looking on at the calm waters. Pretty sure Miss CC felt everything calm until she took a bite into her burger. Filled with school prawns, shaved iceburg lettuce, ketchup and seafood sauce – it looked exactly like a prawn salad in a burger. She nodded in reply when I asked whether it was a perfect summer burger. I guess she was a little too preoccupied to offer me words.

Uncle Kim $10

Uncle Kim caught my eye – oh no, not that middle aged man sitting in his seat. But it was the Korean fried chicken with chilli mayo, kimchi and pickled cucumber that made my heart flutter. The fried chicken was more like a schnitzel, but I still liked the crispiness it had. But what got me was the kimchi, offering a nice spicy kick along with the chilli mayo and pickled cucumber letting the spice levels decrease just that tinge.

Lattice fries $10

So the lattice fries had us a little confused as it only said cheddar melt and spring onions. My response was, “Perhaps it’s sort of like chilli cheese fries … but not?” Yeah, now that I think back to it, it made no sense. But this potato goodness was simply moreish and the cheddar cheese melt sauce was subtle in flavour was all the more easy to go down.

So… like… we finished our burgers then our ciders, rested and the sun warmed our insides, or was that the burgers we just demolished? Anyways, we then decided we could probably fit more in with more cider?

“I love how they make the burger slanted, it’s so creative.” Miss CC sounded impressed.
“Oh … about that, it actually fell as I was walking back…” I did not have the heart to lie to her, as I was rather amused.

The shack $10

The beautifully slanted burger was filled with beef pattie, jack cheese, fresh tomato, onion, ketchup, mayo, and coral lettuce. While everything was delicious and fresh Miss CC did find her pattie a little raw for herself.

Pup $10

Oh, not exactly a burger here – a hot dog! You get a nicely smoked kransky, topped with cheddar melt and chilli mustard. Even Miss CC could not resist and took a bite, which I had reluctantly offered her. It was also a nice surprise to get a layer of mince meat and beans, like a nachos serving! It made every bite tasty, if you didn’t get some kransky, you got some meat or you could have BOTH! #winning. Unfortunately, I was too busy nom-ing that I forgot to snap a pic of it all!

Are you ready for those summer days? Or are you not much of a summer person, and much prefer the cooler days?
