i-Creamy, Sydney CBD

I haven’t been out much lately, as I guess everyone can see with the lack of activity here and the cob webs starting to form. But I do try to get out as much as I can. Last month, I did manage to sneak out and watch the much-anticipated Aladdin, we had purchased our tickets late last year and finally the day arrived. With much talk around it as soon as it opened, we knew we made the right choice months ahead.

So while having the chance to be out, there is no slipping up on getting in some foodventures along the way. So, this lovely Saturday afternoon we were standing in the queue-less i-Creamy for our rose ice cream.

Two flavours $6.90, Three flavours $8.90

There are only a handful of flavours to choose from for your rose ice cream, and these can be noted with the green four clover stands. On this lovely Saturday afternoon I went with the apple cinnamon and creaming soda. The apple pie had bits of dried apple inside, which gave you a nice little textural bite. The creaming soda is everything you would expect it to be, it really reminds me of the Schweppes creaming soda that you can get in Hong Kong, the yellow soda.

I-creamy really lives up to their name, as the ice cream is smooth and creamy.

Flavours do range, so you are always assured to get a different combination if you do revisit.

There is one thing I am sure of, this is one rose no lady will be decline… ok, I can’t speak for all ladies, but I know this isn’t one I will decline. Would you?

Watch below how the rose ice cream is made.

Gelato Messina Dessert Bar, Darlinghurst

Messina Dessert Bar,
I have admired from afar,
Could it be a new star,
Or has it left a minor scar?

Following our lovely brunch at Pinbone, Miss CC and I decided to pop into the messina gelato dessert bar. I have been longing to go for a while now, and what better day than a nice warm day… or so we thought?

I love the novelty of the shop design, and I am eager to try a few on their menu, but we had to be a little more realistic.

Pavlova kone $9.90

Miss CC went with the pavlova cone, it’s cute, topping off with raspberry meringues and a red cone which was also raspberry flavoured. However, as Miss CC ate, she failed to find any links to it tasting like a pavlova. Despite her love for their special pavlova flavour, this perhaps did not live up to that or her expectations. How unfortunate as it looked simply amazing!

Carni candy $9.90

I went for the carni candy, because fairy floss – why not! This totally reminds me of Mr whippy’s chocolate-coated soft serve cones! But it’s far from it, I totally love how refreshing the Fanta sorbet is, but I also failed to find the redskin… until of course I get to the bottom and childhood comes back to me. That sweet raspberry mixed with the orange sorbet was interestingly good.

But a pre-warning with summer ahead of us and those massively hot days, I would totally recommend going for a cup option if you head to the dessert bar, as this melts much faster than you can eat. Both Miss CC and my hands were sticky, it got to the point where we both did not and could not finish our cones.

BUT in saying that, if you ever want to be reminded of how it felt like being a child eating an ice cream cone dripping down your hands, this may just be for you.

So, have you ever had anything recently that brought back childhood memories?

Stix Desserts, Surry Hills

There is something about eating ice cream in winter that makes it just that little bit tastier. Then there is that weird warmth you get from within. Perhaps it’s all in the mind.

So Miss MC and I decided to pop into Stix Desserts before dinner, because it was the first store that led us to our final stop. No need to back track, dessert, dinner then drinks.

Who said dessert had to be after dinner? Who set those rules?

For $4.50 you get your choice of gelato, one flavoured topping and one topping. Any extra is 50cents per topping.

I was stuck with choices, there were so many I enjoyed but could only go with one. Well, I could have gone for more, but we all know I can’t justify myself for having more.  The gelato is soft and smooth, but it holds up well with time. I mean it didn’t show any signs of melting after so many shots!

I ended up with the salted caramel, dark chocolate topping and peanuts. When I tried the salted caramel it was just enough salt and caramel ratio, however after adding the toppings, it does lose the salted taste. So I guess trying the flavours is one thing, but adding your choice of toppings may just change it a little. For better or worse would be your call.

Miss MC ended with the hazelnut, you can never go wrong with hazelnut. Pretzels may not be the best idea if you are on a first date, because Miss MC had chocolate all over her mouth. Though she was way too busy to wipe, so I guess she had to endure some looks but at the same time, I don’t think she knew how much chocolate she had until she wiped… It’s ok, I still love you!

I am eager to pop back in to try more flavours, I love it! The chocolate hardens like ice magic then you have your textural topping bite, and another layer of chocolate layered on top. Like yum! I am not going to compare this with Messina as they offer different products, but I may be giving Messina a little break for now.

Vivid ft. Messina

SHOOT…. SHOOT … SHOOT!

It’s that time of year again where everyone comes out to shoot! The time of year where Sydney siders allow themselves to look like a complete tourist and shoot their beautiful city.

I must say, this year is surprisingly warm. I’m usually all wrapped up in my scarf and massive jackets but this year, I was walking in just a hoodie and felt very warm.

We started our night in Martin Place and I’m running to the gelato messina pop up store. I went with the psychedelic spider.

psychedelic spider $10
Creaming soda & vanilla swirled gelato, raspberry & banana lollipop, crushed humburg lollies
topped with fairy floss
I was sharing with my beautiful aunt and she asked me what I thought after my first spoonful. “Childhood, it tastes like childhood.” I’m not sure if it applies to others, but to me it really tasted like my childhood and I was intrigued as to why. I mean, sure all sweets would – but it was different. After many more spoonful’s, I realised why. It was because of the hard candy, those childhood days when I had a little glass bottle of hard candy from Darrell Lea! It was crushed throughout and the gelato soft serve was simply amazing. I was back in my childhood for sure!

I didn’t capture a photo of the “infamous” tree at Martin Place because I was too busy noming on my ice cream goodness. And by the time I was done, we were already off to the next station!

We walk our way over to Circular Quay and enjoy the plenty of lights it has to offer. Not forgetting to stop in front of Customs House. I’m not too taken away with this year’s lights at Customs House.

More walking and we are hit with the Museum of Contemporary Arts, and I must say this is my favourite this year! I don’t know why, I just love it. Unfortunately, I didn’t actually capture my favourite moment of the show. But if you have time, do check it out!

There is no way you would see the hashtag sign and not stop to take a photo. It just would not define today’s day and age at all. Everything is about hashtags now, and to see a light with it, well… there is no passing this by!

And yes, what is Vivid without a stop at the opera house right?! It just wouldn’t make much sense! I really need to invest on a tripod, because it is a bummer when you take photos that just don’t work. So, I’ll just settle with instagram videos for now.

Sydney, you truly are beautiful. I apologise that I forget and take you for granted.
